As “Monster Hunter: Rise” becomes a trend online on social media and gamers, many rookies joined the society and have met many problems as well. So today, I will be explaining the problem that many newbies have met including myself, what is “Affinity”? Technically, you can see affinity as a critical chance from the other games. Where hunters have a chance to hit and deal extra damage as the affinity is triggered. But before we enter the topic and explain what is affinity, we will have to know the most basic inside the game first.
In advance to understand Affinity, we have to understand the weapon itself first, when we open our status bar, we can see that how many attacks we have and understand how much damage we deal currently. Different weapons also have different damage so do pay attention to them. The higher the number, the more damage we deal with monsters as common sense. The second will be elements, there are five different elemental attributes in play within Monster Hunter: fire, water, thunder, ice, and dragon. Each of the game’s 34 monsters is weak to at least two of these attributes, usually with one element making for a more exploitable weakness when compared to the others. By knowing each monster’s various weaknesses, players will be in a much stronger position to take them down when the time comes.
After understanding how does damage and elements work in Monster Hunter, we can now explain Affinity as everyone is looking for. Do be aware, there is positive and negative affinity when players are playing Monster Hunter Rise. A positive affinity gives 25% extra damage and a negative affinity decrease 25% damage dealt by players. For example: a 10% affinity weapon will allow players to deal extra 25% damage in 1 out of 10 hit. A 20% affinity allow players to deal 25% extra damage in 2 out of 10 hit and so on.
But how does we increase our affinity? A good question you would ask later as I would mention it now. Players are able to increase Affinity by using armor set, talismans, and decorations. For example “Critical Eye: Provides an increase in base Affinity.” and “Weakness Exploit: Increases the affinity of attacks that exploit a monster’s weak spot.” There is also others armor skill and you check them out here!
Latent Power: Activates a temporary boost in Affinity when certain conditions in battle are met. Latent Power activates after 175 seconds have passed in battle, but players can decrease that timer by scoring hits on monsters.
Affinity Sliding: Increases Affinity after sliding for a short time.
Agitator: Increases Affinity when large monsters become enraged.
Critical Draw: Increases affinity for a short time after making a draw attack.
Maximum Might: Increases Affinity if stamina is kept full for a period of time.
After knowing what is Affinity, then we can look further into Critical Boost, which exceed the number limit of Affinity damage. As an example, if a player deal 100 damage with his weapon, then triggers the affinity which provides 25% extra damage which is 125 damage. Critical Boost are allowed to boost the limit from 125 damage to 140 damage if it’s a level 3 Critical Boost. Then allow players to maximize their damage. Lastly, after explaining all this about affinity, you might ask how did you know if you triggers the affinity or not since there is no UI or anything that shows it. It’s actually very simple because if you did trigger it, there will be a red line in your screen! I hope you enjoy this guide and I hope it does help any of you, goodbye!
